Keep It Simple! Wedding Finger Food Ideas for Catering Your Own Wedding

Focus on wedding finger food and you’ll be on your way to saving time and money on your wedding reception food costs. I am a self-proclaimed finger food expert, as my husband and I host dinner parties and wine tastings often. Here are some excellent finger food ideas that can be served buffet style elegantly displayed on tables or by wait staff in-between the ceremony and formal dinner.

These photos are from my own post-wedding reception held at a relative’s home. All the items on the buffet tables were finger foods and everything was served cold. If you are catering your own wedding food, cold food helps keep things simple.

Several sturdy boxes were placed on the table and then black fabric was draped over it. The boxes underneath created "risers" for certain dishes to sit on. This created levels.

Even more finger food ideas! Cheese on toast with cherry and olive slices, salmon on mini-toasts, kiwi with cream cheese and pate with cranberry gelee on rounds.

Hope these photos gave you some ideas for your own wedding finger food options! Everything included here is incredibly easy to make, the prep involved for much of it is simply cutting or arranging. Keep in mind that you will need somewhere to store items and will need serving trays.

Plain old cookie sheets work as serving trays if you simply cover them with fabric, leaves or colored tissue paper. Check thrift stores for serving trays and stores like Ikea have an excellent selection of cheap, white serving dishes.

Bon Appetit! Eat, drink and be married!
