Kauai Destination Wedding - The Beauty in Details

This fall I attended a Kauai destination wedding and it was stunning. If I had to do my wedding over again (I mean if I got to do my wedding over again) I think I'd get married there.

The weather and the natural beauty of the island means you can get away with pretty much anything and it will still be gorgeous. No need for decorations, wedding favors or heck, even bridal shoes!

kauai ceremony

Take a look at the ceremony location! If this doesn't make you fall in love with the idea of a Kauai destination wedding, I don't know what will. Under the canopy of a banyan tree, with scattered petals on the grass marking the walkway and a table at the back of the rows that held white fragrant leis for each guest. No other decorations other than two simple bamboo poles in pots with palm fronds on top. Here are simple instructions for how to build a canopy with poles in pots.

kauai conch player

A conch player (at least I think that is what the shell was) announced the start of the ceremony and set the mood.

kauai wedding favor

You can also incorporate an island flavor into all the little details, which is what made this particular wedding standout. The seating cards for the reception were tied to these little, ceramic hula wiggle dancers, which were the wedding favors. Although they are fragile and I'd normally say "skip fragile" for destination weddings, these were so cute and of such quality that we all made sure to wrap them carefully in our suitcases for the trip home.

kauai bride bouquet

The bride's bouquet consisted of simple, white cala lillies tied together in a bunch. Fresh and simple beauty, which matched with the whole feel of the wedding. The wedding party were barefoot and sat down on the grass during the ceremony, something I'd never seen before. It was lovely, they looked relaxed which made everyone else feel relaxed too. Although I think attending a Kauai destination wedding will automatically force you to relax!

Speaking of relaxed, this couple is known for their silliness and at the end of the ceremony it was announced that kazoos were under each seat and that the guests were to "kazoo" a tune as they exited. It was hilarious, fun and so unique!

kauai kazoo

Here is a pic of guests trying to teach the little ones how to kazoo.

All in all, this was one lovely Kauai destination wedding! This wedding took place at the Waimea Plantation Cottages which is a very cool, "old school" Hawaii sort of place. Full of nature, empty beaches and lots of roosters and frogs. I'd love to stay there again.

It is your wedding, do it the way you want!
